My wishes for you in the new year

We all know the inadequacies about resolutions.  They are too pithy, too obvious, too banal, and they just don’t work.

Nevertheless, I do think that the end of the year is a good time for reflection.  It’s a good fulcrum point where you can look back at the previous year, and equally look forward to the year ahead.  I highly suggest that you do this now, before the year gets too busy and the time for introspection passes.  (I myself took advantage of so many folks being out of town recently to spend an entire day holed up working on this workbook.  Then again, I’m professionally introspective.)

But rather than give you a run down on what went well and what didn’t go well for me this year, I’ll just leave you with my wishes for you this year.  Luckily for me, these are my wishes to myself as well.  The list isn’t exhaustive, but it’s a good start.  Here goes.

My wishes for you are:

  • That you act intentionally and with purpose in all that you do.
  • That you do not allow the endless busyness of life to  ill up your free time unnecessarily.
  • That you commit to continually reaching out to your friends and loved ones, not just to say hello, but to meaningfully connect and build upon your connections.
  • That you will stop what isn’t working for you.
  • That you will take time throughout the year to evaluate your progress rather than wait until next year.
  • That you develop a plan for your money and use it to fund your dreams, not corporate profits.
  • That you never relent.
  • That you never stand down.
  • That you realize how much is at stake.
  • That you will continue to take action.
  • That you will continue to be grateful.
  • That—in such a beautiful and perilous world, amidst those who have more or those who have less, amidst all the obstacles that could befall you and all the wonders that you could build, amidst all the possibilities and all the unknowns—you will feel strong enough to be joyful.

Keep reading, and we’ll find a way to do all this and more together.  Thanks for being here.

But enough about me.  What are your wishes for the new year?
